Scriptwriter Hired for Star Trek 4

Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) has been hired to write a Star Trek script based on a story idea from Quentin Tarantino. Earlier this month Smith, Lindsey Beer (Gozilla vs Kong, Dungeons & Dragons), Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation), and Megan Amram (The Good Place, Silicon Valley) assembled a writers room with Tarantino to flesh out his Trek story. Now the pair will work together to devise a script that Tarantino may later direct with JJ Abrams executive producing.

No details have yet to be revealed about the story so could go anywhere and that includes not necessarily involving the current movie cast as I suspect Paramount would ok a soft reboot if the script needs it and Tarantino signs on to direct. Not saying this is the case, just at this stage all possibilities are open especially since Paramount signed off on allowing a R-rated Trek movie. Smith will basically have all of 2018 to hammer out a script that Tarantino, Abrams and Paramount can approve as the potential Trek director is gearing up to film is Manson Family movie that will start filming in Spring 2018. Including time for post-production that means Tarantino will not be able to focus on directing Star Trek until late 2018, early 2019.
